Alexandra Perez Demma

1. What is your name?

My name is Alexandra Perez Demma.

2. What are your ties to the Logan Height/ Barrio Logan community?

I have been in Barrio Logan for over 7 years. First established my art studio on Main Street at the Union collective for a few years before relocating up the street where I eventually opened a gift shop on Logan Avenue called Simón Limón in 2018. Since opening my shop on Logan Avenue, I co-founded Walk The Block, organized events, and eventually co-founded the nonprofit “All For Logan”. I regularly attend BLA meetings and try to be as involved as possible while maintaining my business.

3. If you are running to be a part of the board, which position are you interested in ( President, Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary)?

I am interested in running for president.

4. Why do you feel you are qualified to be on the Board of All For Logan? I have been organizing along other fellow business owners, first as a grassroots initiative, in response to the restrictions imposed on businesses by COVID-19. The mission has been to keep the business community alive, preserve the culture, and make sure we have the resources we need on Logan Avenue- which has been excluded from the MAD. This initiative led to the formation of All For Logan. I have spent countless hours into what led to the formation of this organization as well as during its formation and now the determination of its future; I have been involved in every aspect including and not limited to filing paperwork with the IRS and California Secretary of State, made amendments to paperwork submitted, acquiring necessary insurance coverage, wrote out the grant for the AARP Grant for the $20,000 fund we received, I have done and turned in all of the financial reporting of which is also required in our agreement with the City of San Diego, I have ran and led communications with the members on a regular or as need basis, I have created all graphics and necessary promotional material such as site plans, maps, flyers, website, etc. I have open communications with other nonprofit organizations and city officials with the intention to better our community and its members. The overall goal is to expand the boundaries of the organization and build a nonprofit that is representative of the diversity that is the fabric of our community and continue to build relationships and bring resources to not just the businesses but the community of Logan Heights/ Barrio Logan as a whole. I do not have previous experience with being on a nonprofit board, however, in the past months I have dedicated many hours into understanding the procedures and in/outs of organizations such as ours. I am a fast learner, a good listener, honest, and I am not afraid of hard work.
